[3rd Floor] Red Dragon Café

Interior

The rustic-looking two story Café rests near the end of a long line of buildings on the western edge of Delilah. It's exterior is simple in design; the outer walls are a mixture of worn stone and plaster, with several vines and various other flora growing up the side of the building. Two bay windows enclose the wooden door beneath a clay-tile roof. Stuck to one of the bay windows is the Café's sign thread reads "Himawari Café". A small sidewalk sign also displays the name with some other relevant details, and sports a childlike drawing of a dragon. Upon entering, you would find that the quiet Café is being operated almost single-handedly by Takao's familiar, Otoko.

(I'm editing this post so that I can use the second post for shop related things. This is the roll from July 27th.)

A large grin worked its way onto Takao's face as he stared at the large building before him. It was cozy looking, sitting on its lonesome on the western outskirts of the third floor, overlooking the vast fields of dandelions. He couldn't contain his excitement anymore and giddily rushed inside to give the interior a thorough examination. Everything was exactly as he'd planned it, down to the simple decorations on the wall that added to the homey feel. He raised his arms and slammed his fist into the palm of his hand, still grinning like a madman. "Alright! First things first, I'm starving! Celebratory lunchtime!" He hurried into the kitchen through an archway located behind the counter, his eyes brightening up as he saw the equipment. Everything was perfect. He rubbed his hands together and brought out a few ingredients from his inventory, and prepared a few simple snacks: baked potatoes! After successfully making a pair, he proceeded to eat them. It slowly dawned on him that he'd likely make a terrible chef, because he was unsure if he could keep himself from eating everything he made.

After a long morning spent grinding away at the monsters on the ninth floor, Takao returned to the third floor. He unlocked the doors of his shop, which he had yet to officially open, and proceeded inside. The lack of customers meant the interior was still pristine, a fact he was rather thankful for. He made his way toward the kitchen area and stretched his arms out as he exhaled a yawn. "Aaaalrighty, I think it's snacktime!" He dove into his inventory menu and retrieved a few simple crafting materials, organizing them in front of him. He procured the necessary instruments for his craft and went to work immediately after. A short time later, he'd both mourned his failure, but also celebrated a smashing success, as he held a beautiful looking Senbei in his hands.

Another long day of grinding left Takao with a little time to wind down and relax. Usually, he would have headed over to his favourite NPC-run café on the same floor and gotten something to eat. But with his recently acquired building that would eventually be used as a café of his own, he was much more excited to go "home" and spend some time training his craft. He locked the doors behind him as he entered and headed straight for the kitchen. After flicking on the light that chased away the afternoon darkness, he proceeded to acquire the required tools of his trade. A short time later had produced both success and failure, though his focus was on the success, which had resulted in a rank up.

 

"Apprentice Cook?" he said to nobody in particular as he read the menu and lifted his failure of a crepe up to bite. It wasn't a terrible failure, though he certainly wouldn't have fed it to anybody other than himself. "Neat."

Takao leaned on the counter as he munched on an apple and absently scrolled through the various menus that floated in front of him. "So an apprentice cook can make desserts? That's pretty cool." He said aloud to himself, having long since past the state of mentally berating himself for doing so. It had become a habit now, one he was sure he'd need to break eventually. "Kinda weird that desserts would come before meals and stuff." Takao tossed the core into a nearby rubbish bin and watched it dissipate into colourful shards of data before he refocused his attention on the menus. "...and sandwiches. Sandwiches are meals, aren't they?" He sniffed and shrugged before navigating to his menu and releasing a small pile of ingredients onto the counter top. "Ah well, it'll be worth all the effort when I do finally get to that point. Ohhh, I should stockpile materials! I wonder what drops the best ham..?" His audible conversation with himself continued as he prepared a few different desserts, none of which were particularly exceptional in their quality. He'd managed to salvage the materials from one failed attempt as well by sheer luck as well.

"oh..." Takao stared at the smoldering remains of... something. "oh no." He reached out and slowly poked the substance which released a plume of steam and deflated at his touch. His hand snapped back to his chest as he stared at the gurgling heap of smoldering food remains. "What have I created..? I don't even..." Takao glanced around the kitchen and narrowed his eyes, then slowly picked up the heaping mess of whatever it was. He carted the failures off to the nearby rubbish bin and dumped it inside without a second thought.

"I wonder if this is karma..?" Takao stared at the blackened ash that sat in a pile on his counter top while he rubbed the back of his head in thought. "I can't think of anything particularly bad I've done lately... Maybe it's to atone for a past life?" His musings were shelved while he transported the ash to the rubbish bin and brushed his hands together until they were clean. He eventually huffed out a sigh and shrugged before turning off the lights to the kitchen and heading upstairs, to the living quarters portion of the building. "Well, tomorrow's another day."

Takao place a small pile of ingredients onto the counter before him and flicked open his menu. He navigated through the various lists and options until he located a few recipes he was interested in trying. The first attempt was a failure, and he found himself unable to salvage the unfortunate mess. The second attempt was much like the first, though to a lesser extent. He was able to salvage some of the ingredients before the entire mix went sour. The third attempt was successful, though not perfectly so. It was still of acceptable quality, however. He shrugged his shoulders and figured that was a good enough attempt for the day.

Takao glanced at the items sitting on the counter, two of which were recognizable as food items and the third... well, the third took a short trip over to the rubbish bin before turning into shards of data. Takao walked back over to the counter and collected the remaining items to place within the safety of his inventory for later use. With his upcoming excursion into the desert to search for a familiar, they would surely come in useful.

Takao closed and locked the door to his shop behind him as he proceeded inside. He stretched his arms out toward the ceiling and set his sword down on the counter as he passed into the kitchen. He cracked his knuckles and rolled his head across his shoulder, eager to make himself something to eat after a long, hard morning of grinding away on the eighth floor. Navigating to his inventory was quick, and the cooking process was equally so. When he was finished, he had managed to salvage two failed attempts, and one rather successful one.

Takao rubbed his face vigorously as he slowly made his way down the stairs that lead into the kitchen. He stretched his arms skyward and exhaled a long yawn before setting his eyes on the counter. Some breakfast would definitely do him good, so he retrieved a few basic ingredients from his inventory an began to work. Nearly half an hour had passed before he finished, and the results were a pair of basic food items that would serve nicely as his breakfast.

Takao groaned as he descended the staircase that lead from the residential section of his building to the restaurant portion. His yawn cut through the deafening silence and he slowly leaned onto the counter as his eyes closed. It felt like he could go for another full day of rest, but he was much more interested in making himself something to eat. After delving into his inventory, he meticulously crafted three food items - one of which he ate for breakfast, and the other two proved to be of high enough quality that he'd rather save them for a better use.

The morning had droned on from the time he woke up and embarked on another unexciting excursion onto one of the higher floors for some daily grinding, to now, as he reclined peacefully on the couch that sat in front of the crackling fireplace. He shifted to lay supine, settling his back onto the soft cushions and glancing up at the ceiling. He huffed out a breath and slowly sat up, something in the back of his mind motivating him out of his laze state. Takao moved down to the kitchen and cracked his knuckles. After laying out the ingredients he planned to use before him on the counter, Takao went to work. Half an hour had passed and he completed a few respectable food items, and a few less than such.

His familiar hopped off his shoulders and scurried off behind the counter and into the kitchen, then disappeared up the wooden staircase to rest in the residential area upstairs. Takao stretched as he pulled the scabbard off his shoulder and laid it on the counter that he passed on the way to the kitchen. "Alrighty, first a bit of crafting, then a nice long nap." he said to himself, audibly listing his short list of plans for the next few hours. He dumped some ingredients onto the counter after retrieving them from his inventory, and got to work.

Another morning of incessant hunting lead to an afternoon spent crafting with the materials he'd received from his efforts. The door of his building was shut and locked behind him before he sauntered into the back room and began to work. He dumped the resources onto the counter and went through them one by one - some of his efforts yielded results, and others yielded culinary monstrosities that he hastily disposed of without a second thought. When he was through, three new items sat in his inventory.

It'd been a while since his last excursion in his kitchen, mostly due to his sudden bout of crippling laziness. Yet he did have some motivation, with the boss fight being right around the corner and a few new additions to the cook's crafting list, he found his profession to be quite a bit more useful now. He emptied out a few ingredients and varying crafting materials onto the counter and went to work. When the proverbial dust, which was probably actually just flour, he'd managed to only make one item that would be useful.

Shortly after waking up, Takao decided that he'd delve into a spot of crafting before he headed out to hunt the day away. With a plethora of materials to work with from the prior day's haul, Takao set to his craft. He finished not long after, and although the result wasn't exactly everything he'd been hoping for, it was ultimately better than nothing. He disposed of the failures and packed away the remaining crafting materials, as well as his only success for the day.
