[SP-F2] Edgar's Mansion (COMPLETE)

Recommended Posts

Despite looking like a mansion, the building's interior is similar to a dungeon's. It is housed with monsters, knights, and of course, a few treasure chests, if they ever find it. Kino found the building somewhere in the woodlands while journeying through the place casually. The mansion is decrepit, and it is grown with moss. There are three ways to enter the building: the front door, the upper floor window and the giant, empty chimney.

His imaginary rabbit, Frank, whispers to him about the risk of entering there. Regardless, Kino remains calm, as the adrenaline of fighting grows strong within him. The clouds darken as rain is starting to pour heavily.

"...rain....my favorite," said Frank.

"Well," Frank speaks in a monotonic voice. "...I do not think anybody would come here...how long are you going to wait? It has been a day since you sent those messages, and so far, no response...except for one. But that was too bad since she is at a different floor."

"...."

Kino starts to wonder if anybody will ever show up. The area around him looks very hostile, and to cap it all off, Edgar's mansion is deep in the woodlands, and unless he marks the path back and forth between the dungeon and the entrance of the woods, it would be difficult to locate the mansion again. Eventually, he decides to give in and pack up his stuff. Donning his cuirass and helmet, and arming himself with his sword and shield, he steps out of his camp and walks to the mansion.

Staring at the building, he decides to just use the front door. However, as he turns the knob, the door wouldn't budge. The keyhole looks strange as well, surely a normal key wont work.

Time to use the alternative. Kino climbs up the vines easily thanks to his reflexes. After reaching the first floor window, he crashes it with his foot and leaps through it. Looking around, the room is empty, but he is able to hear a low growling outside the room.

Before he could even open the door, a morning star breaks through the wooden barrier, much to Kino's surprise. A zombie knight, who is responsible for the breaking the door, steps in as it moans in a low pitched voice. It swings its weapon around as it prepares to strike the player, who is in a defensive position with his shield raised up.

Walking past the corpse of the knight, Kino ventures further into the mansion. The interior is decaying and gives off an unsettling atmosphere. He checks one of the nearby rooms and opens the door, no signs of enemies or treasures. He closes the door and proceeds among the hallway, later encountering a spiral staircase that leads downwards. Cautiously he walks down the stairs, sounds of roaring and bellowing can be heard around the mansion, if it is ever a mansion.

Looking from the balcony, he could see another two skeleton soldiers patrolling what seems to be a big living room. These ones are relatively weaker though, due to their lack of armor. However, they cannot be underestimated for their scimitars are still sharp and their wooden shields provided some cover (+1 DMG Mitigation). He runs down to the living hall and faces the skeletons as they notice him soon after and shuffle towards him. Since they are close to each other, he could treat them as a single threat, his sword would be able to slash them altogether in one time.

Kino moves on, ignoring the pain received from the skeleton's sword. He is about to move further when abruptly, another creature appears and roars at Kino threateningly. This creature has the face of either an old man or a lion, has the body of a lion, and a scorpion tail as well. Its tail has deadly venom, which can easily kill a person if he or she gets stung (this occurs if its critical strike hits at 10). This enemy would be difficult to kill due to its strength. The fight will either lose or win, depends on Kino's skills.

The monster drops dead onto the floor heavily as Kino's sword strikes through its mouth, then cutting its way through the side of the mouth. The manticore's corpse slowly disintegrates into pixels as it drops a loot consisting of an amount of Col. Feeling starved again, Kino takes the last two boar meat with him and looks around for any kind of medium heat source that might exist in the mansion. While doing so, he remembers the chimney and tries to locate the fireplace, fortunately it is there, but the fire seems to be fading, which explains the lack of smoke rising from the chimney.

Attempting to rekindle the small flame, Kino kneels down and stuff some of the coals that are still left beside the fireplace. In a few seconds, the fire roars back to life, affecting the whole surroundings of the mansion. Every light is turned on, and all creatures that are vulnerable to light are immediately burned to death. Even all but the iron armored soldiers are burned off to crisps.

Kino settles down by the fireplace as he skewers the large meat with a nearby fire poker. It would only take some time to cook up the entire food due to its large size. Kino drinks up all of his water and eats the last two remaining boar meat, it was a good meal to him. Looks like he has to hunt some more though if he wants free meat.

He stares at the fireplace as he is thinking on how to proceed. Frank sits down onto the rotting couch as he stares at the window, outside, it is raining heavily. It is surely a bad luck for players who get caught under the heavy rain. As Frank scans the entire interior with his X-Ray eyes, he found out that not only the mansion isn't as big as it's supposed to be, but a basement also exists there. The entrance for the basement is concealed with a fake wall, and it would be easy to locate the bogus wall, if not for those armored skeletons that are roaming around the room.

"There is a cellar here, but to access the entrance, one must purge the unclean that exists within the chamber that houses the fake barrier."

"....." Kino slightly nods, acknowledging Frank's fact about the basement. The latter continues explaining regarding the basement's interior.

"I know not of what lies ahead of the cellar though. Maybe there is a monstrous mob down there, or a treasure full of loot. Maybe there is nothing there, just an empty, dark and dusty place. Or even worse....corpses..."

"....do you have knowledge on the history of this mansion....?"

"I do not delve into the histories of anything automatically. It is not in my list of supernatural abilities."

"...."

"Feeling a little better, hm?"

He nods.

The bunny sits beside Kino and stares at the blazing fire, its light source reflecting at their faces as Kino is warming himself up due to the cold surroundings that starts to appear around the living room. They do not say anything else to each other, the only things that break the silence are the sounds of fire crackling and rain pouring heavily. He embraces his sword like a lover as he plants his face onto the surface of the blade. Frank notices his behavior and moves closer to him.

"Are you still embracing your fighting spirit, Kino?"

He nods slowly, faintly kissing the surface of the blade and slowly whispers something incomprehensible. The room seems to get colder from the wind as Kino is still embracing his sword.

While looking at the inventory menu, he notices something that he missed, something that he should have used earlier during his fights with difficult enemies. There are 3 Tier 2 Healing crystals that restores a total of 10 HP for each of them. He is surprised that he forgot all about the crystals he bought just a day ago. Now keeping in mind about those items, he closes the inventory menu and keeps embracing the sword while staring at the fire before he could proceed further. Whatever sword he owns will not only be his weapon, but his companion besides Frank. His sword is also his battle partner, and sometimes, his sword is the source of his desire to slash, chop or stab something as a way to satisfy his violent personality.
