[PP:F4] All the Ideas I Have are Stupid Ones <<Avalanche>> (Life) COMPLETED

Recommended Posts

Persephone had leveled as quickly as she could, but the impeding boss fight was looming over her head and she still wasn’t ready. She had finally earned her first rank in first aid, but that would not be enough to keep anyone alive, so she had to try and progress as much as she could before her impending death. It was how she found herself on the fourth floor out on the frozen tundra looking for a damn frost monster. Like an idiot, she had come alone. She had no idea what she was trying to prove other than she was entirely stupid.

After about an hour of searching, she found it, or rather it showed itself. The creature was a giant walking ice monster at least ten meters tall. “Oh… I’m so [censored],” the young woman said as she looked up at the creature grimly from the set of rocks she had hidden herself behind. “What the hell are you even doing here …” she told herself as she took both her hands and slapped them to her cheeks trying to snap herself out of her idiotic plan. She wasn’t ready. There was no way in frozen hell or any hell for that matter that she would be able to defeat this thing on her own.

Not today anyway.

With a dejected sigh the young woman began to slowly walk away from the scene hoping she would not be spotted by the damn floor boss before she got away safely.

Life was on his way to fight avalanche again. He had always though as avalanche as one of the better bosses to farm, he wasn't to difficult, and wasn't a steam roll either; the rewards he gave were also decent for the floor and he could always count on it the big clunky thing to entertain him. Life dragged his feet through the snow, the only thing that really irked him about the floor was the fact that his kimono was terrible for the terrain and often dragged when he walked.

It wasn't long before he had arrived at the scene where he could battle the beast. And to his surprise he saw a women slowly walking away from it. He didn't give much thought to it, only assuming that she had already killed it by herself and was walking away before the respawn of it aggrod on her. He politely nodded at her as he walked past and made his way straight for the boss. He began to draw his blade, but stopped and looked back at the girl, rather puzzled. She had barely any gear by the looks of it and didn't look as though she had just finished fighting a boss, there also wasn't many people who could solo casually either. It was safe to assume that she was probably a lower levelled player. "You weren't just about to fight that thing just now were you?" He smiled smugly and pointed at the beast behind him with his thumb, his other hand resting casually on hilt of his katana.

As Lisa was walking away, a young man in a beautiful blue kimono approached and gave her a nod. She returned the gesture and kept walking a few more paces and thought nothing of it until he called out to her. She turned around and walked back over to the tall dark haired man and nodded. “Well that was the plan, but I can’t fight him. There’s no way in hell I could take on a thing like that alone right now.  I’ll probably die in like two seconds of being down there. But you have at him. I didn’t activate him so he should be all ready for you to go kill him off and all.” She said with a smile.

Life tilted his head and stared at her for a moment while his mind processed the reason why she was here in the first place. It didn't exactly make sense but he assumed she was just really eager to get into the fight and wanted to get stronger. "If you want i could help you with it. I've fought avalanche plenty of times so you should be relatively safe as long as you stand behind me and let me tank it. We'll have to be partied though" On second inspection she did seem to have a decent amount of gear after all.

“Really? You’ll help me? You’re a lifesaver!” Lisa said, her face lit up with a bright smile. “I kind of got myself into a mess and if I don’t do something to help remedy it… I’m as good as dead come Monday.” She knitted her eyebrows as she explained. “My name’s Persephone.” Lisa said as she opened up her HUD and found the party invite menu. As he was the only one of the field it made it easy enough to send him a request. “Life... huh? Well thank you Life… for saving mine.” She giggled. It was a terrible joke and she was probably sure he got stuff like that all the time, but she ran with it anyway.

Life half smiled at her joke and accepted her part request, he didn't normally get jokes about his username as people who knew him, knew it wasn't a good idea, and the others didn't know his name. Though after his experiences with Mayuri he had become more open to helping and socialising with other players, it wasn't something he did often at all. "You're welcome. But we haven't fought it just yet so don't get ahead of yourself" He winked at her and turned to face the boss, rubbing the back of his neck and bending it from side to side to stretch it.

The young woman giggled as the young man half smiled at her stupid comment. “Couldn’t help myself,” she shrugged her shoulders. He reminded her they hadn’t fought the thing yet, but she didn’t seem too worried now that she had him to carry her through this quest as well. The young woman had the good fortune of being lucky enough to find others to help her which in the end would keep her alive and well, at least until the boss fight. Life seemed to be preparing himself for what was to come and Lisa waited patiently for the go so they could finish off this floor boss.

Life looked over at Persophone and grabbed hold of his blade, lifting it slightly to reveal a blue glow "Watch this" He looked back at avalanche and launched himself off the snow bed, soaring towards the beast and unsheathed his blade. In one swift motion, Life's blade cut straight across Avalanches torso as he drew it out of its sheath, leaving behind a blue neon trail of where his blade had been that quickly faded away before he dropped behind Avalanche. The boss didn't take kindly to his abrupt chunk of damage and turned with rage, hurling its massive icicle of an arm horizontally, attempting to swat him like a fly. Life caught a glimps of the things motion and jumped, flipping over the things arm and keeping light on his feet, grinning and waiting for another attack.

Life had managed to land a spectacular blow on the mob taking its health down at least two-thirds of the way. It was rather fantastic really, she had never seen anyone move so quickly or use a katana for that matter. Lisa marveled at the players who could so easily obliterate mobs with their weapon skills. Her were rather pathetic and she felt even more self conscious about going into the boss fight as unprepared as she was. She watched and waited for an opening, and when she saw one, the young woman rushed in to take her chance to hit it, maybe she could paralyze the damn thing and make it even easier for Life to finish it off.

No such luck, as she moved in to strike, Avalanche was ending out attacks trying to hit Life but the young man was far too fast for the creature to even come close to touching him. She however was almost nailed by an incoming icicle and she jumped back sliding backward along the ice trying to keep herself from being hit. She knew one wrong move and she was as a dead woman.

Avalanche wasn't in for a very pleasant evening as it thrusted it's other arm forward and was completely out done in speed by life. He tilted his body to the side and watched as a pile of snow erupted from the force of Avalanches impact. It was a shame it didn't hit him, now the thing was dead, with nothing to show for it. Life ducked forward and lowered his stance, triggering the glow of his blade once again and executed Wa Shu. He darted forward and began to lay his blade into the bosses ice body, carving through the ice of its abdomen, he then brought his blade up wards and jumped cutting up along its chest and neck like an uppercut. The beast staggered but he wasn't finished. He strafed to the side and cut under the beasts arm and flinging it to the side, breaking its balance and causing it to stagger to the side, allowing life to then cut diagonally up its side. Life took a step back and with a smug grin he leaped forward and brought his blade down on its head and cut straight through its entire body, vaporising it in the process. He stood and sheathed his blade before brushing his fringe to the side. "Well that was fun" He said with a heavy exhale

Lisa’s jaw dropped as Life went in for another attack and completely ruined Avalanche’s day. The young man was really something to observe and she couldn’t believe how graceful and efficient his attacks were. He struck the creature, completely dusting it and the landed easily remarking how much fun he had. Not even a full minute had gone by before the Life had vanquished Avalanche like it was a frenzy boar on the first floor.

“I can’t [censored] believe you just did that.” She said still in awe.

Something glittered on the ground behind Life and Lisa walked over to it picking it up. The bottle was cold to the touch and contained an icy blue gel like substance. She carried the bottle over to Life and held it out for him. “I believe this belongs to you...” she said still bewildered at the dizzying brilliance of his battle skill.

Life looked over at her and stretched his arms out as the victory screen popped up for their efforts, if what just occurred could be called an effort. Even he was surprised with how quickly he had taken the thing out. "I think that must have been record time for me" He grinned and walked over to her as she handed him the potion "I don't think i'll need this. It was good for the hydra fight and that was about it. Oh, and if Zelrius decides to come after you. Who know's maybe you'll need it" Life passed on the offer, he was just satisfied with how quickly he beat the walking ice block to a pulp. She seemed rather amazed at his skill. "That should have fetched you a nice amount of experience huh"

Life gave her the bottle of whatever it was and Lisa smiled. “Thank you,” she said and added it to her inventory. It was the mention of Zelruis that made her perk up. “So I take it you know him then?  I had pleasure of meeting him at his birthday extravaganza. He’s actually why I’m in this mess.” She began to tell the young man her predicament. “I was sort of drafted into the boss fight… because I’m training my first aid skill, they want me there as a medic.  I’m supposed to help keep some guy name Tristan alive. To be honest I’m not even sure I’ll be able to keep myself alive long enough to do my job.  I’m glad you were here to help me though. This will definitely boost my experience at least a couple levels. She said with a smile.

Life smirked "Of course i know the strongest player in Aincrad. Who doesn't? It looks to me like you've got yourself into quite a situation. Careful around him, he's a real 'charmer'. I also know a guy named Tristan, did a quest with him, got my ass handed to me by him. Though that was before I got I stronger, now I'm fairly sure I'd leave him face down in dust. As long as you stay behind Tristan you should be fine though, he's one of Aincrad's best tanks, though we don't really have many to begin with anyway" Life joked and looked around the frozen tundra, not sure why they were still standing idle in the snow. "I also know someone who wants to be a field medic. She's learning fast"

Lisa nodded and began to move. Now that they were done, they probably ought to clear the field unless they wished to take on the Avalanche again. Life began to tell her about the people she’d met and gave her tips on how to keep alive during the boss fight. She nodded and took in all the information finding the young man to be quite helpful in this situation. He made mention of knowing another player working to build her skill up in first aid and she smiled. “I’m not sure many have invested in it as they wanted to bring me along and you’ve seen my level… so they must be desperate.” She said with a laugh.

Life walked beside her, following her out of the field and listened as she spoke. "No, not many have. Mainly because this is a game of Life or death and really the most important Life is your own. You won't be of any use to people dead and so you need to make sure you're strong enough to take care of yourself before trying to go around protecting others." Life paused with his mouth slightly open realising how harsh and deterring it sounded. He took in a breath and continued "It takes a special person to put others constantly before themselves. Selflessness is a commendable virtue. Though i digress. As long as you make sure you safe behind the others you should be fine, and a great help." Life flicked his fringe to the side to keep it from blowing in his face and wondered where they were going to, he was a little upset he didn't get any good loot from Avalanche this time. Normally he dropped at least 500 col.

Lisa listened to Life and grimaced as she felt she was being chided for wanting to be of use. She knew her level was low, and that she had little skill, but if she was needed, then who was she to say no. It wasn’t just her life on the line… it was the lives of thousands of players resting upon this mission going well. “I understand, and I really don’t want to die, but I feel like if I’m not there, and someone does, it’ll be my fault for doing nothing. You’re very kind though. I’ll keep that in mind and keep leveling as hard as I can for the next few days so I can avoid my demise as well.” They had reached the edge of the tundra and were back under the cover of the tree line when the young woman stopped to face her companion. “Well… I suppose I better go find my next quest. Thank you for helping me with this one, Life. Any suggestions as to what to do next?” She said as she held her hand out to him cordially.

Life didn't mean to come off as rude or demeaning of her acts. He simply saw to many people dying for no reason, simply because they wanted to help. It was the reason he had spiralled into depression. He didn't want anymore people to die, not any more than that had already happened. Life spaced out for a moment and his expression went cold as he thought back to the Hydra fight. He shook his head and re-focused on the woman as she extended her hand out to him. He took it and shook it gently "I really do advise you not to go.. I don't want anymore people to..." He stopped himself and looked down slightly, letting his fringe drop and cover his face. He looked back up at her, expressionless "Don't jump from party to party during the fight, even through the back lines. You might draw attention from the boss away from the tanks and get yourself and others killed. And under no circumstances, step in front of Tristan, he's your parties meat shield and will draw all the attention of the boss to himself. As for what to do next, I'd suggest trying to get some more levels and do quests. Though i doubt you can raise enough mitigation to save yourself from an attack. Judging by your hp, you wouldn't have survived long against the Hydra, i have a feeling you'd be done for in a single strike against this boss."

Lisa smiled as Life took her hand a shook it softly as he began to speak. His expression changed quickly and he told her that she shouldn’t go. He began to say more, but stopped himself from doing so as he looked away. She was about to reach for his shoulder with her free hand, but he looked up at her, his demeanor and expression had changed.  Life told her not to run, or to get in front of Tristan, and she nodded silently as her eyes transfixed on his. He then told her that if she’d gone to an earlier bossfight she’d be as good as dead.

“I figured. I’m trying to level as quickly as I can which is why I’ve been grinding quests for days. Thank you for being concerned.” She said as she gave his hand a squeeze before letting it go. “I’ll be careful as I can. If I die, then it was just my time to go. I’ve had a fantastic life till now, and we all have to die sometime…some of us sooner than others. I don’t think my life will have been a waste if I die here in this world. I’ll only be sorry I couldn’t be of more service.”

Life nodded, still not so sure she understood the full weight of a floor boss battle. He hoped she'd be safe and survive, SAO needed some dedicated supports. "Hopefully you'll survive through this. And then maybe another time. We'll meet again on the front lines." Life gave a feint half smile, only barely curling the edge of his mouth. He disbanded the party and saluted her casually with two fingers "Take care, and may luck be on your side" He turned and began to slowly walk, heading towards the teleporter so her could look for something a little more challenging than avalanche was, it seemed he had finally got to the point where even soloing the floor 4s field boss was childs play.
