[SP-F2] Breaking the Unbreakable (Complete)

Rebekah had wondered why she was in this position in the first place. Somehow, something had persuaded her to visit this hut high on top of the 2nd floor, where there was a quest which she gladly accepted without much thought. What the girl did not know was that the quest required her to break the rock with her own hands, the rock had a HP bar of fifty. What was more, was that the girl could not use any weapons, but will have to get her hands dirty. Leaving was not an option, as she had whiskers painted onto her face, which would only appear after finishing this quest. The answer was very simple, either she was going to destroy the rock, or leave and be seen with these marks on her face. Either way, it was not very enticing, but she wondered if there was a third option. The answer was no, and she was going to have to do it. The last thing she wanted was to have a broken hand, but she was reassured that it was the rock that would break, and not her.

Well, there was no other way than moving forward, and destroying this rock with her own bare hands. Because she was not using her rapier, well she did not want to break her weapon anyways, she was going to use her hands. She did wear the rest of her equipment however, seemingly have no impact on the restrictions, and got started right away. It was going to take a while, and she hoped that her hands would not be too badly hurt by the end of it. She did learn a few self defense moves as a young girl, so she was accustomed to using her hands to fight, or to protect herself. But attacking a rock, would be a first for her. She knew that she had to start wearing out its tough exterior by attempting to chop it up. While it did not hurt, as the pain tolerance in Aincrad, made it unnoticeable, she saw the rock's HP fall down a bit.

It was a surprise that nobody else was here, after this quest was published knowingly in revised versions of strategy guides that was distributed around the player base. Either everyone else has martial arts extra skill, or nobody has anything at all. It was going to take some time before she was going to find her answer, but that was better than nothing. As Rebekah thought again, she knew that she needed to take a look at the scenery around here after she was done. There were just no other words to describe what she saw from here. Her focus shifted back to the rock, as she started to punch at it again, trying to break it down.

The girl was already bored. She had admit that to herself, but the whiskers on her face will not come off easily. This meant that she was going to need to break this rock before the next time the raid team would have to assemble again. There were many things on her mind, especially how to get stronger, and how to do that quickly. There were already a lot of stronger players than her, and she knew that she was going to need to find some way to strengthen her innate defenses so that she would not be a big target for everyone else to target. After all, the girl barely had any defenses with her at all. Even with her athletic skill, this made the process twice as fast, but it was still boring.

Rebekah thought of a way to keep the momentum up, as she must not stop to take a break. It was very undesirable for her to destroy this rock, after all, this immortal object had done nothing wrong, other than being a rock. But it was also part of her training which was very important. The girl knew that it was going to take forever for her to finish this, but she rather it be a lot sooner rather than later. This was the biggest problem that she had faced, the lost of intrinsic motivation to finish this task. The loss was not a big problem but losing it was a huge problem for her especially since she usually does not finish things when she lacks the motivation to do so.

If anything, her motivation was now extrinsic, and focuses solely on the reward of destroying this rock. For starters, it would mean that her face was no long painted with whiskers, and that would come off. It was a huge problem for her as a girl such as herself, do not want to be seen walking around with them on her face. It was going to take a lot of time to solve this issue, but she had hoped that she was going to be able to deal with it rather quickly and effectively. The next thing that she wanted it solved, was because Rebekah wanted the extra skill, and she had admitted that to herself as the only reason why she was here in the first place.

Now that the rock had dropped below eighty percent, after five punches. She knew that she was gradually weakening the durability of the rock. That was the only way that she knew that she could destroy it. It was not going to come from a skill, but rather her determination to keep going at this until it was going to disappear. This was the only thing that was boring about today, was her willingness to do exactly enough punches to finish the task at hand. Up here high above the 2nd floor, she could see the town in the distance, a speck or dot which represents people walking about. It was such a nice place to enjoy the scenery today that she may return back here another day in the future.

Rebekah knew that she still had that determination from the very beginning to join the front lines. But, now she was training hard to stay not only in top fighting condition, but to also prove that she had belonged there. The girl knew that she was part of a group of players who were trying to become strong fast, and needed to gain a lot more experience. With such a high turnover rate, there were many who had participated in a few raids, but there were also players such as her who were returnees. It was time for her to take on more leadership and responsibility in her actions during raids rather than care about herself, and it started out with finishing these quests.

Now that the battle had started, the fatigue had started to come to affect her. It was one of those things that had made her want to slow down her pace, or even stop. The girl had wondered how much longer it was going to take, but she knew that she had barely started. The rock had shown slight signs of wear and tear, but not much if any. It was still the strong immortal object that she saw in front of her, and she wondered were these things really breakable by hand. However, she knew many players had this skill, and she was not going to be leaving without it, or rather she was not leaving with whiskers on her face.

She had wondered if she had left right now, would the whiskers on her face eventually fade by going to the bathroom, and spending an excess amount of time trying to get it off. But in order to do that, she would have to escape from this area, head back to the inn, where she was staying, and eventually and return if that had failed. Thus, it was a lot easier to destroy this rock now, than go through all that work, only to find out she was going to have to break it again at the end of the day. It was not something she had wanted to do anymore, but she was going to continue. Her hands were getting tired, but at least they do not feel pain in this game, or else she would have broken her hands already.

That option was never seriously considered, the girl knew that. As she looked at the rock, she knew she was not even anywhere near halfway complete with trying to wear out its durability. That was the key to breaking it, and it was going to take some more time before she was going to arrive at that stage, but for now, she was going to do everything she could at this moment, before that was going to be a problem. After all, there was nothing else she could have done to date, other than to finish. Besides with the next boss battle upcoming, this skill would help her a lot and improve especially if she was ever disarmed for some unknown reason.

The girl had built up a lot of momentum before that miss, which made her discouraged. How could she ever miss a target that was never moving, and that was the question that she had attempted to ask herself. It was a tough question, and there was nothing else that she could do, other than the fact that she needed to become a lot stronger. This was training, and it was better to miss now and screw up here rather than on the important battle field where it would become a life or death dilemma. That was the problem that they were going to have, and she did not know what the answer was, but she knew that as long as she practice a lot more, she was eventually going to understand how to become better in combat.

If there was ever anything that had crossed her mind, it was what does destroying a rock have anything to do with martial arts. She knew that there were many ways of gaining that skill, but this had to be most boring way that the game masters could have thought of. This was just tiring, and super boring for anyone who wished to gain this skill, and she knew countless people would go on a group but this was one of many things that the girl can easily solo all by herself. It was not hard for her to attack an immobile object, but it took considerable effort to keep going before the game is over.

The girl knew that she had to continue to fight, there was nothing else she could accomplish by standing still and waiting for it to come to her. It was going to take a lot of effort and time for her to finish destroying it, but she hoped that she was going to be able to do it now, rather than later. There was no other questions in her mind, other than she had to finish this quest as soon as possible, and without giving much thought attempted to strike the rock once more.

After thinking about it some more, it was now time for the girl to get back to work, finishing this rock. She had already taken it down to nearly half of the health that it had remaining, and it should not be a big problem as keep her intrinsically motivated rather than extrinsically motivated to finish this thread. It was going to take a lot more effort than she had put into date, but she knew that this was the only way to secure a strong area-of-effect skill for herself. She knew that there was a lot to learn, and it was very important for her to accomplish this now. This would allow her to kill multiple enemies at once, rather than one at a time.

The girl continued to think about how strong rocks are. It had taken her at least ten punches, and yet it did not show signs of wearing a tiny bit. She knew that its durability was decreasing but the appearance did not show that. Was that a bug or was that something that she was expecting to happen. Rebekah continued to make another strike at it, as she needed these whiskers to disappear from her face as soon as possible. There was nothing else she could do other than destroying it, as she was not going to run away from the task that appeared in front of her. Just like that she landed another strike, this time it felt different, maybe it was a critical.

This boring routine, the girl had been waiting forever for it to end. She could not wait for the second that this rock will break, her whiskers disappear and she finally return to her comforts of the indoors, especially her bath. This was not something that she did not want to spend more time on, as it was going to kill into her other time, and she knew that this was going to have to be very important for her to finish. The girl knew that she was going to have to be quick to do this, as the next raid would start shortly, and they needed her return to help. It was one of several things on her mind, and she had set a self imposing deadline of tonight to finish this quest by. It was doable but she was going to have to pick up the pace.

Even though the battle was going well for her, Rebekah was slowly and surely losing all her patience with this battle, if she wanted to call it a battle. It was very annoying for her to continue as it was no fun. As she stood here and continue to attempt to break the rock, she knew that she must be getting close soon. She had made about a dozen strikes and it was surely going to break soon. In reality she was just estimating and guessing but as the time continue to pass, this felt extremely boring and something that she would have never done, if she was not living in Aincrad such as now. There has to be a way to speed this up, but the girl knew deep down there wasn't. She just had to stay the course and continue to hit it until it breaks.

As the girl looked on, she had been working on this for most of the morning and she still was not anywhere closer than when she had started. It was going to take a miracle for her to finish before lunch, and she was starting to feel slightly hungry. While she did pack a few snacks for her, she had not been planning that this would take forever, and as a result, she was still waiting for the time to tick by. With every strike, she knew that each one could possible be the one to break the rock, but she did not know the answer. Although it did feel that the rock was a lot weaker than before, or at least she thought it was like that. But it felt like she was getting really close to breaking it at this point.

The girl continued to strike, knowing that it was a matter of time, and she had a lot of time on her hands. The girl was also looking forward to quickly training a lot more in the near future, but this was one of the few things that she had been waiting for all along, the ability to learn this brand new skill. As she wondered, how much longer was she going to take before she was going to destroy it. After all, it had took her a very long time, and she was still not done, and it was going to take quite a while until she was going to be able to use the new skill in combat, but at least she had it. It would be a lot better than nothing, she thought, as she waited for it to break after each strike for a second before continue onwards.
