[PP:F4] Snowfall <<Avalanche>> (Life) COMPLETED

Recommended Posts

Mai walked beside Life trudging through the snow as they trailed away from Snowfrost Town and made their way toward the tundra where Avalanche could be found. She walked along; her head tilted toward the sky and her mouth agape, trying to catch snowflakes on her pink little tongue.

“Is it far from here?” She questioned her companion who eagerly led the way to their destination.

Earlier that day, Mai had received something quite precious from another player, and she’d run all the way home from the restaurant to show her companion the item. When she had, Life immediately decided that they needed to test out her new gift and see what its true value was. It was why they were headed toward the home of the giant icy mob. The Blood of Champions was an unlimited consumable; a small red crystal in the shape of a syringe which was supposed to buff the user with two additional damage points and an increase of forty over health. It was a very hefty bonus indeed and a highly coveted one. Persephone had told her that she’d received many offers for the item prior to giving it to Mai.

Shay pulled the crystal from her bag and held it up to the light admiring it. The inside of the stone seemed to be alive with a strange glow emanating from it. Life reminded her to keep it hidden and she tucked it back into her bag once more. “Sorry…” she apologized. “It’s just… really sparkly.” She said and smiled brightly.

Life was headed to slay avalanche once again. He had killed the poor boss so many times he kind of formed a master pet relationship with the thing. Although it always seemed to want to kill him, like a.. grumpy puppy of some kind. Nevertheless Mai had a new item, and it was powerful, and rather interesting indeed. Apparently it gave a boost to damage and health and Life wanted to see exactly how strong it would make him. Since he had slain avalanche so many times, he figured it'd be a good mob to gauge his strength with the item against. He was rather pleasantly surprised when Mai had revealed the item to him. He was certain that he was the luckiest and most fortunate player in the game, all thanks to Mai. However it was also one more reason to be protective of her and watch out for her. If anyone found out that she was in possession of such an item, they would surely harass her and put her in harms way for it. It didn't sit well with him at all, especially since people would gladly just use her like she was just an object, a bottle of steroids or something. It was disturbing to him. He didn't want that for her at all because he knew Mai was too kind to may people pay for her service. "You're fine, it's just very important we keep it a secret" He reassured her. "It shouldn't be too much further now"

Mai tucked the crystal back into her inventory and hurried to catch up to Life and walk beside her companion. She looked at his handsome face as she bouncing along beside him with a soft smile on her face. She knew that Life was right; she did need to keep her new item secret. Others would come for it and she wasn’t strong enough to protect it from being taken from her. It was why Life had promised to help her grind through quests and level her up as quickly as possible; she needed levels in a bad way or she would never be ready in time for the next boss fight.

They finally reached the edge of the woods, and further up ahead was the wide open tundra. Mai ran ahead of Life wanting to see if she could get a glimpse of what it was they were to take on. Her teal eyes scanned the open space and when they hit upon what she was looking for, her mouth hung agape and she let out a squeak. “That… that’s Avalanche?” She blinked and turned to Eric as she pointed to the massive ice titan walking slowly across the snowy field. He was enormous!  It was the biggest mob they were to take on to date. “You’re telling me you’ve taken his thing out in two hits?” Mai stared at her gorgeous companion; his ability to impress her never ceased to amaze the young woman.

“Ready to see if we can make that one hit,” she said with a wide smile. If the crystal were effective then Life would have a much quicker and easier task of getting Mai leveled.

Life smiled at her amazement at him, her enthusiasm never stopped surprising him and delighting him. He nodded and hummed "I did yes, he's one of the weaker bosses now though, there are a lot stronger ones than him" Every floor that they progressed, the mobs only got stronger, so it wasn't any surprised a floor 4 field boss would be considered weak now. He was sure that to Mai this was probably the strongest boss that she had faced, but he would make sure she was safe. There wasn't much Avalanche could do if he was going to kill him within seconds.  "Normally now yes, i should take him in two hits, so I'm keen on seeing what this thing can do" He asserted. He watched Mai with such loving eyes, always seemingly captivated by her beauty at any point he took a moment to look at her. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her, but he didn't want to distract from what they had set out to do today. "Once we defeat him, we should try and see what else we can do with this"

Mai smiled and nodded as Life was ready to test out her new item. She didn’t blame him; it was something that would be coveted by many if they knew of its existence. “You mean once you defeat him. I’m afraid with this you won’t have much need for me,” she smiled half serious about what she said. Pulling the crystal from her bag and then reached for Life’s hand. Shay took it in hers, pulling up his sleeve and turning his arm over. Taking the syringe shaped crystal she pricked Life with it and then kissed the spot she’d poked him.

“There now... That didn’t hurt did it?” she asked forgetting they didn’t feel pain in the game.

Life shook his head "Not a bit, thank you" it didn't hit him at first, but as the blood took effect he felt his power increase. His health rose by nearly fifty percent and his damage increased by a hefty amount. He kissed her forehead and squeezed his hand into a fist as he began to walk toward avalanche. "Alrighty then though guy lets see how much you can take here" Life was ready to see how much damage he could dish out with this new item. After taking a few steps towards him however. Cracks began to for in the ice in front him. He took a small step back and was careful not to set anything off. Within the next moment 4 eskimo's spawned around him. It seemed as though the game didn't intend on making the game that easy for higher level players on low level floors afterall. Life drew his Katana and sprang into action instantly activating his Haku Senpu sword art. One moment there was a swift and violent blue tornado, ravaging each eskimo. And the next moment, there was just him, and silence. He sheathed his blade in annoyance as now he would have to wait for his energy to recover. The loot screen popped up and he raised an eyebrow "Looks like I've got you some more materials"

Eric’s health rose and he looked rather determined as he kissed Mai’s forehead and then turned to go pick a fight with the gigantic ice block. Just as Life was about to go and see what he could do against Avalanche, several mobs popped up blocking his way. Mai watched as the Eskimos immediately went for Life, but he was ready for them and activated one of his stronger attacks completely slicing through his opponents with little trouble. She grinned and clapped as a reward message popped up and he told her that she had more crafting materials. “Thank you!” She said with a wide grin feeling rather luck that she had him to gather materials for her.

Life’s energy bar was near depleted and Mai couldn’t send him off to fight Avalanche as he was now. She opened her inventory and pulled out the Green Teas that had been given to her and sent a trade request to Eric. “You should keep these on you… they’ll replenish four of your energy while you’re in battle. That move nearly wipes you out,” she added wondering if such a move was too costly to use as he did. If fights took longer, he’d have a high probability or running out of energy before he could finish his fight.

Life smiled as Mayuri cheered for him she rushed to his side and insisted on giving him items to replenish his energy "Thank you Mai, these will come in handy, here are the materials" When she traded the green teas he put in the materials he had picked up from the mobs he killed "That should save you some more grinding don't you think" He smirked and accepted before using one of the green teas on himself. "These actually taste rather nice" Life was impressed by Mai's craftsmanship, if it was her that made them. If not then it would be rather awkward of him to say so. Avalanche was within close proximity, he'd end him soon. "Okay, this should give me enough energy to deal with him"

Mai leaned in and stood on tip toe as she kissed Eric’s cheek to thank him for the materials he gathered for her in one go. She hit the accept button and added them into her inventory. His efforts would keep her full of mats for some time to come. He smirked all awfully full and proud of himself and she couldn’t help but giggle. He was cute when he was confident.

Life accepted the trade and took one of the teas from his inventory and tried it. “Is it good?” She asked and he replied that it was. “I wish Persephone had told me who she got these from. I wonder if I can make electrolytes too. I should look into crystallizing them if I can.” She rambled and reminded herself not to forget this novel idea.  Eric mentioned he was ready to take on Avalanche and she nodded.

“Lead the way…” she told him wanting to see just what he was going to do.

Life began to slowly stride towards avalanche, drawing his katana halfway from its sheath as he walked towards him. Avalanche turned towards him as he entered his zone and let out a chilly roar, blowing the snow breeze over his face. Life griped the hilt of his katana and closed his eyes and let it faintly glow Lets see how much i can do with this blood "Zekkai!" Life's eyes opened as his body darted into motion towards the boss and in one fluent drawing motion, cut straight across the field bosses abdomen, drawing the rest of his katana from its hold. Instantly the bosses health dropped into the red zone. He was rather pleased with himself, last time he did roughly 50% of his health and now it looked like a solid 70. "Oh yes, i think i like this blood a lot" He said with a smile and the ice golem turned furiously towards him and slammed its fist into the ground, causing ice spikes to rise from the ground towards him. Life dashed backwards and strafed each spike in swift motion, looking as though he was barely trying. The spikes stopped coming as avalanche lifted its fist from the ground and shook the snow off its ice clad hand, challenging him to come at him.

Life went in for the attack and Mai observed from a safe distance giving Eric as much space as he needed to strike the monster. An attack was activated and Life’s Katana sliced across the midsection of the icy behemoth causing the creatures health to fall well within the red zone. The young man was all too pleased with himself. There wasn’t much time for celebration as Avalanche attacked. The mob slammed his fist into the ground causing ice spikes to rise up from beneath the frozen tundra. Life easily avoided the attack with his quick reflexes pleasing Mai greatly. Even though she could heal him, she’d rather avoid him being injured.

Mayuri withdrew Light Reaver from its sheath. The falchion was much heavier than her hwando, but it also was a lot more powerful than Cold Star. The raven haired girl went after Avalanche. Her attacks were never hard hitting, but this new blade had paralysis, which meant on a good hit, the mob was out of commission for a round. Activating <Reaver>, Mai slashed at Avalanche striking him for a few points, but landing a critical strike upon the creature. Avalanche, though icy, was now perfectly frozen unable to do anything against the pair.

Life watched as Mai came in to add her strength to the fight. He had actually been curious about how she would handle combat situations, and he was pleased when he saw he do a nice chunk of damage of her own on the field boss, effectively paralysing him in the process. "Good job Mai, that was perfect!" Life used the opening to activate his next sword art. Using up the last of his energy Life sprung forward with three consecutive slashes slicing up along the bosses mid section then spinning towards his side and cutting it in the process. The boss turned to guard his next attack but life already darted forward thrusting his katana through its body and vaporising it instantly. It was satisfying beating avalanche down again, it was probably his 6th defeat and this was his fastest battle yet. Life straightened his posture and sheathed his katana before turning to Mai. "Looks like he had an ice fall."

As Shay landed a safe distance away from the mob, Eric went in for the kill. There was hardly anything left on Avalanche, and even with most of Life’s energy depleted,  he could still do enough damage to take the mob down provide his did not miss. However, it was rare for the handsome young man to miss, and as she’d hoped, the lithe man slashed at the creature several times and then cut it once more as he spun about landing the final blow. Even before Eric had set foot upon the ground, Avalanche burst into pixels and faded away. He sheathed his weapon and turned to her, making a bit of a joke of the creature’s demise. Shay smiled and clapped her hands rather pleased that their little experiment had gone so well. If he could do this much at just the level he was at, she wondered how much more powerful he would be once he was finally able to max out his skills.

The pink kimono clad girl looked about. She knew the creature had some type of drop, but didn’t know what it was. On the ground, she spotted a glistening bottle and she walked over to pick it up. There upon the ground was a bottle of a silvery liquid, and as she lifted it out of the snow, she found it stayed cold to the touch. Shay carried it over to Life and held the bottle out to him in both her hands. “This is yours,” she said with a smile. He’d done all the work after all. The drop was technically his.

With the mob slain, there was little else for them to do on the frozen tundra. She stood beside her companion, just smiling up at his handsome face. “So now what are we doing?” she asked him curiously wondering what he wanted to do next. She hadn’t expected the kill to go so quickly, so they now had the rest of their afternoon free to do as they liked.

Life walked beside Mai and placed his arm around her waist. He smiled and kissed her forehead, pleased with their success "You did good Shay". He was happy to see that she was enjoying herself with him this whole time just as much as he enjoyed every moment with her. He checked the time and noticed that they really hadn't been out for all that long anyway and Life wondered what they should do. Shay asked him the same thing just a second after his thought and he was a little regretful that he didn't get to ask first. He thought for a moment and smiled "I know, we can head back up to the higher floors and see just how much this can really do. After that, we can go do more quests, unless you've had enough for today. I don't mind going back to the store and spending the evening with you" He smiled and tilted his head as he walked along with her, heading closer back towards the main town. For now it was a good as direction as any. Life didn't mind if she decided to end up going home, either choice he was more than happy with taking. Life never knew loving someone could feel like this, this amazing.

Eric came to her side, placing an arm about her and kissed her head. She had done well apparently. Shay didn’t feel as if she’d done much, but she was grateful that Eric felt she had all the same. “Thank you.” She told him. “You’re amazing though! I can’t believe you got him down so quickly.” She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him.  Now that he was hers, Shay found that she couldn’t stop wanting to hug Life constantly. It seemed to her as if he felt the exact same way.

As she contemplated her adoration for her companion, Eric devised a plan of action.

“The higher floors?” Shay smiled.

The last time they had tried to get onto the higher floors, they had to make an escape. Shay wasn’t ready, even with the blood she didn’t think she could get very far, even with Eric protecting her. In fact, last time they had to retreat because of her. “What floor would we go to next?” She asked him curiously wondering where they would travel.

Life could sense the look of doubt on her face, it seemed as though she wasn't confident in their ability to fight on the higher floors. He couldn't blame her considering they had to retreat the last time they were at a higher floor. Though they were surrounded and he was out of energy. In a more controlled environment they would have been fine for sure, but he didn't want to embarrass himself in case they did have to retreat. "Hmm, well i think we can head on home now. You have a lot of materials, maybe you could do some crafting. How is your alchemy profession skilling going anyway, are you making good use of the materials i gave you" He said in a cheerful voice.

Shay took Eric’s hand as they walked away from the tundra and began to head back up the hill.  It seemed her noted the doubt on her face and decided that maybe home was a better option. She did have quite a lot of material in her inventory and had to get moving on her profession skills. She couldn’t help the front if she couldn’t make anything useful to give the other players. When Eric asked her how that was going Mai could only blush.

“Oh… “She said and lowered her head a little. “I’m afraid I really haven’t improved. I’m terribly sorry if I’m wasting your efforts. You’re trying so very hard to help me, and I’ve been squandering your hard work. I promise I will do better. I’ve just been apprehensive of doing alchemy since the last time I nearly burnt down the shop. Where would we live if I destroy our current home?” Mai’s confidence had taken quite a blow in her professional abilities, and the girl had been quite uneasy about her skills every since.

Life frowned at his love as she told him her confidence in her abilities had diminished while progressing through her crafting. Life kissed her forehead and looked at her carefully "Shay, it's fine, don't ever feel like you're letting me down. Take your time with it, im sure one day you'll be one of the greatest alchemists Aincrad has to offer. And i'll keep providing you with as much as you need." Life smiled at her warmly, he was confident that she would be just fine and he highly doubted that the cardinal would allow for their home to be burnt down, that would just seem entirely unfair and irrational. Life kept close to her as they walked towards the teleporter.

Eric kissed her forehead and Shay smiled in relief glad that he didn’t feel like she was wasting his time. He went on further to flatter her and she could only laugh. “Oh I don’t know about that my love.” She said blushing, “I’m sure there are far superior ones. I just want to be able to do my part. If I’m helping, I’m satisfied.” Shay reached for his hand and took it in hers.

“Besides, I mainly did this so I could be of use to you. So long as you think it’s good, I’m happy.

Shay was so modest with him, it really only made him love her more. Though, he didn't like that she doubted her potential, anyone could reach max skill level if they put enough effort and dedication into it. When she told him that she really only wanted to do it for him and to protect him his face went hot and he tried to hide his face with his bangs. "You wont disappoint me Mai, you couldn't" With that they entered the teleporter and went back home, to plan his next quest.
