Manta had recently found a quest in her quest log. She hadn't noticed it before, but it looked simple, like one of the lower level quests, and she thought it would be an easy was to get skill points. It was on the first floor, and involved a hunt for a plant type monster. In all likelihood the fight wouldn't be all that hard, but Manta wasn't going to take any chances. All it took was one mistake and you were gone.

Manta wandered the fields for a while, searching for the mob that was her target. There weren't any in sight, although she did spot some other monsters. She had equipped her sword, her gauntlets, and her new breastplate and was ready for a fight, but so far there didn't seem to be one. Her eyes scoured the area around her, but she didn't see a single Little Nepent.

As she walked around the fields, Manta couldn't help remembering back when she was a low level player. She had made quite a few friends in these fields, and gather a lot of materials as well. She remembered all the fun adventures they had had together, and the smile that had started to form on her face shifted into a frown. Those days were gone now, and most of her friends had gone off and she didn't see them anymore, or they had died in some way or another.

There was the incident in the café, with her first kiss. It was pretty embarrassing, and all her friends had been watching, but it was still a nice memory. To this day she didn't really understand what her friends had been doing there, and the only thing she could think of, was that they had been attempting to spy on her and Sousuke. She remembered when she and Sousuke had gone and fought monsters together. It was a strange feeling, reminiscing. In fact, it made her feel old.

That was even weirder though. She was still in her teens, and she felt much older than her years. Maybe everyone felt like that though. She had been walking for a good period of time while thinking these thoughts when she noticed movement in the corner of her eye, in her peripheral vision. She turned to seek out the movement. There! It was a monster that matched the description from the quest.

Manta unsheathed her sword and drew closer to the creature. It was green in color and looked like some sort of plant. This one didn't have a flower on it's head like the quest described though. The quest had mentioned that her target was a rare type, so this was probably one of the more common types. Manta looked over it's health bar. It said Little Nepent. She ouldn't tell how much health it had at that moment. She would only know when she attacked it.

Manta charged forwards, swinging her blade through the air. It made a whistling sound, right up until it impacted the Little Nepent. Her blade went al the way through it's torso, killing it in one hit. She had gotten a material, but it wasn't the one she was looking for. This was called Nepent Root, not Little Nepents Ovule, or whatever the quest had called it. Manta resheathed her sword and continued on into the field to look for some more of the little mobs.

The creatures seemed to be on the rarer side of common, and as she looked around she couldn't see any more of that type of monster. Maybe she was simply in the wrong place. They could have a specific place that they spawned, or maybe Manta was just unlucky. It was likely the latter. She had terrible luck when finding materials and it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that that bad luck applied to finding monsters as well.

Manta continued to look around her for any sign of the creature as she walked. A couple of minutes later she caught sight of another one, and she rushed over to it. She swung her blade at its head, and it dodged, jumping onto her arm and biting it. She shook it off and stabbing it right in the center of it's body. It burst into blue and green crystals and left without any loot whatsoever. Not the item she was looking for, not any col, zip zero nada.

This quest didn't seem to be going very well, although that was just a matter of opinion. The quest had said a 'rare' type of Little Nepent, meaning that they were rare. Maybe it was time to give up. Manta didn't feel like she could do that though. She had already started the quest, and hunted down two of the monsters. It was only a matter of time until she found the right one and completed the quest. She needed the skill point after all. She wasnt all that interested in the weapon that she would receive as a reward, but it wasn't like she'd turn it down.

Manta continued walking until she eventually reached a new section of the first floor. This section was a forest filled with plant life. Manta hoped that the spawn rates of the Little Nepents were higher in this area than in the fields. She was getting bored with this quest, but wasn't prepared to quit yet. She was determined to see this through. All that stood between her and upgrading her skill in one handed curved sword was a couple of measly skill points.

As it happened, Manta was correct in assuming that the Little Nepents spawned more in this new area. Almost as soon as she stepped foot in the forest she spotted one. She ran towards it and immediately engaged it in battle. She dodged it's first attack and then counterattacked, her blade flashing as it drew a long, glowing red line in the stomach of the monster. She still didn't get any loot, but she felt that it was a good omen that she'd come across one so soon after entering the forest.

Manta was now in a more optimistic mood. She smiled as she hiked through the forest every once in a while she came across a mob, but she ignored all of them except for the little nepent. As she walked she continued to check her surroundings for any trace of the creatures. Her sword was unsheathed and held in her hand at the ready, even though no mob was in sight at that moment. She was prepared to pounce on the next little nepent she saw and cut it to pieces.

But she didn't see any more Little Nepents for a good while. After about ten minute she added some material hunting into her search. She found a suitable plant to harvest befor she found another Little Nepent, so she cut it off at the root and added the material into her inventory. Even if she didn't find the monster she was looking for at least she would have some materials to show for her effort.

She concentrated on the ground, her eyes scanning for other materials. It wasn't long before she found a small flower that she recognized as an ingredient in health recovery potions. She cut it away from the ground and put it in her inventory alongside the other material. She looked back up in time to see a little nepent with a large flower on it's head charge at her. She dodged the attack and prepared to fight it.

Manta moved in, her speed augmented by the breastplate she wore. She slashed at the Nepent, and her sword sheared through it. After a few moments everything but the flower burst into glowing blue and green crystals. Manta went over and picked the flower up, examining it. The loot screen popped up, stating that the flower was named <<Little Nepents Ovule>>.That was it, the material she was supposed to get for the quest. She brought up her quest menu, and quickly turned the material in to complete the quest.

Manta looked over the quest rewards. She would receive a sword with one enhancement of her choosing, as well as a skill point. She selected the weapon, and chose an enhancement of +1 accuracy. She tapped the complete button and the sword shimmered to life in her hands. It was called the Anneal Blade, and was a plain straight sword, with a leather wrapped handle and a steel cross guard and blade.

She stored it in her inventory and started to head back to town. She had traveled pretty far from the starting city, and it would be a long trip back. She didn't pause for anything on her way back though the forest, ignoring the materials and mobs that she saw. She was tired out, and done with pretty much everything for the day. She just wanted to get to the city, eat some good food, and go to sleep.

The sun was starting to go down, and it was only now that the trail through the woods started to get difficult. Manta found herself tripping on roots obscured by the shadows. It was getting on her nerves, but after ten minutes of exhaustive hiking in the light of the dusk, she eventually made her way back into the fields. Thankfully the fields didn't require too much light to navigate by, unlike the forest.
