Manta exited the café with Ebony close behind her. They made their way to the teleport so that they could go to the fifth floor and fight the quest boss that resided there. Manta approached the teleport and stepped inside, calling out 'Armadillo!', the name of the main settlement. She waved at Ebony as she disappeared and then reappeared on the fifth floor teleport. She walked away a few steps and leaned against one of the domed buildings to wait for Ebony to show up.

Ebony finished up her coffee, and the two of them silently made their way to the starting city teleport. Ebony gave Manta a little wave back, as she stepped into the teleport. She waited a few moments before entering the teleport herself and stating the name of the place she wanted to go, Armadillo. A few moments later she appeared on the fifth floor. She glanced around for a few moments until her eyes lit upon Manta, standing a ways off. "Hey Manta! Where do we go now?" She called out, running over to her.

Manta opened up her HUD while waiting and checked to make sure that she had all of the equipment that she wanted equipped. She looked up as Ebony appeared, and gave her a little wave as Ebony ran over to her, asking what they did now. "Well, I was thinking that we could go take care of the boss, and once we wipe the floor with it we can part ways and then meet up tomorrow for some more hunting or just hanging out. It is pretty late already." She swiped her HUD away, remembering something as she did so. "You should probably equip that necklace, it should help with your healing."

Ebony nodded in agreement. She opened her own HUD and equipped the necklace she had received as loot from the last boss. Manta had a point about the time as well. "Your right about that. We should probably hurry and take care of it." She said. She unsheathed her dagger and motioned forwards. "Onwards!" Ebony smiled and started forwards, down the street that was behind where Manta was standing.

Manta ran to catch up to Ebony and tapped her on the shoulder. "The boss's spawn point is this way." She said, grinning and pointing the opposite direction. She turned around and started to walk in the right direction, chuckling a bit as she walked. She rested her hand on the black pommel of her rapier, glad that she could do something to help, even if it was only a small thing. She liked to feel like she was actually doing something to help the other players, and helping Ebony was giving her that sense of accomplishment.

Ebony dug her heel into the ground and twirled around, following after Manta. There was a reason she had asked Manta for help. She smirked a bit and followed behind Manta, where Manta couldn't see her. Once again she was going to let Manta do all of the hard work while she got stronger. She actually felt a bit bad, taking advantage of Manta's kindness like this. Still, it couldn't be helped. And it wasnt like Manta wasn't doing this willingly. Was Ebony really manipulating Manta into helping her? It certainly didn't seem that way. Ebony adjusted her grip on her dagger as they approached the boss's spawn point. She let Manta trail ahead a bit further. She wasn't going to risk being attacked and dying unless she needed to.

Manta unsheathed her rapier and held it up in front of her. She had done this quest before, and knew how the boss had a tendency to surprise attack from below. This quest required one to pay attention to the shifting sand in order to dodge. Ebony had been surprisingly quiet throughout the trip there. Manta wondered what was up with that, but didn't delve too deep down that train of thought. She turned around to tell Ebony that she should probably hang back a bit, but Ebony had already done just that. Just then she felt the sand shift slightly underneath her, and she steeped to the side, just as the shark burst out of the ground, the sand billowing up underneath him. She held her blade to the side and activated Shooting Star, sending a slash into it's side before it retreated back under the ground.

Ebony liked partnering with Manta, but she was starting to think that they made a sucky team. Manta seemed to never get injured. What was the point of a healer for someone who dodged everything? It was only a matter of time till Manta got hit with something though, and Ebony was going to be there to heal her! Still, Ebony was starting to think that Manta was unhittable though. She continued to hang back and wait for her chance to help out. At the rate this was going the fight would be over before she could do anything, just like the last one.

Manta stared down at the ground, watching for any unnatural movement in the sand. She held her sword at the ready and waited until she felt the sand shift beneath her before leaping to the side as the shark burst up from underneath the sand, missing her by a few inches. She stumbled in the sand and fell over backwards, missing her chance to strike. She got back to her feet as the shark sank back down into the sand, missing her chance to attack. She glanced over at Ebony to make sure that she was all right before turning her attention back to the fight at hand.

Ebony watched as Manta dodged the shark with ease. She was very impressed by Manta's graceful movements; the way she effortlessly dodged and counterattacked. That awe she felt disappeared as Manta tripped and fell over, getting up in time to see the shark sink back under the sand. How did someone so fast and strong fail so badly? She sighed, but continued to remain vigilant. She wasnt going to miss her chance to help Manta. More than ever she felt that she would have her chance to show off.

Manta stood absolutely still, closing her eyes. She concentrated solely on her sense of hearing, and the feeling of the sand beneath her feet. She knew that the shark would attack any moment, and she wouldn't let herself fail like she had before. She felt the sand shift beneath her and she stepped to the side, activating her sword skill and swinging as she opened her eyes. Her blade sliced into the sharks side, leaving a long glowing red line. The sharks health drained down into the red zone, and Manta prepared to attack again when it showed up.

Ebony moved in a bit closer, holding her blade out. If she could just hit the shark, she was certain that she could kill the boss herself. She stopped herself midstride. Was she that eager to die? The shark could kill her with one hit. She stopped moving forwards, and instead stepped back to where she was before. She was there to help Manta, the support her and heal her when she needed it. There was no need to put herself in danger just for bragging rights. And she wouldn't even get those if she beat it. Manta had taken out the majority of the health, dealing the finishing blow herself wouldn't change that.

Manta watched as Ebony started to walk forwards. She wasn't going to tell her to go back, even if it was dangerous for her. It was Ebony's decision, and only hers what risks she would take. Still, Manta couldn't help feeling a sense of relief when Ebony started to step back to where she was before. Manta felt the ground shift again, and instinctively dodged to the side, swing her blade but missing as her attention was on Ebony at that moment. She jerked her eyes away from Ebony and back to the fight at hand. She wouldn't miss again.

Ebony realized that she was distracting Manta from the fight and felt a bit guilty at causing her to miss her opportunity to end the fight. It was only a matter of time until she hit the shark again. She wanted to shout out a few words of encouragement, but felt as though that might distract her even more. The fight was already over, it was just a question of how long the shark could avoid Manta's strikes.

Manta ignored Ebony and concentrated on the fight at hand, switching her blade into a reverse grip. As the shark burst from the sand she didn't bother to move, stabbing her blade down into it's face before it could attack her. It shimmered for a moment before bursting into blue crystals. She sheathed her blade and accepted the loot, holding it out for Ebony to take. "Here's your loot. I think that's all for today though..." She mentioned the second part in passing.

Ebony smiled and sheathed her own weapon as the shark burst into crystals. She accepted the potion that Manta handed her and smiled. Still, she couldn't help feeling bad. She felt bad for a couple of reasons, the first being that she now felt even more indebted to her than she had before. The other reason was that Manta was helping her in return for literally nothing. And that didn't seem right. Manta had to have some sort of plot involving gaining Ebony's loyalty. She knew that she had to watch out from now on. Maybe she could trick Manta into telling Ebony her plan. "Why are you doing this for me Manta? Its not like your getting loot, and its not like im helping you at all." She asked.

Manta smiled back to Ebony kindly. She had expected that question to come up and was prepared for it. She didn't need time to formulate an answer as hers was completely truthful and didn't require much thought. "We all need to stick together to win this game, regardless of whether or not we like each other. So even if I disliked you, which I don't, I would help you. I enjoy helping people, and the cool thing about this game is that by helping others I help myself by speeding up how fast we escape this game." She explained, hoping that she had been clear enough.

Ebony wasn't surprised by Manta's response, but she was surprised by the promptness of the answer. She thought she understood now though. Manta really was getting something from helping out, she was training the lower levels to be able to help out the front liners while at the same time. She was also gaining the lower levels loyalty and trust in case she needed it later. That was what Ebony was getting from Manta's answers. "Your probably right, lets head back now." She said, not responding to Manta's answer out loud. She reached out and grabbed Manta's hand, pulling her along and smiling at her. Two could play at that game. She would gain Manta's trust and loyalty right back.

Manta held onto Ebony's hand, running alongside her, back towards the town. She was glad to have made a new friend, and was happy that Ebony had just accepted her answer. She was happy to have Ebony's trust, and was glad to be able to trust Ebony. They made it back to the town, and Manta waved to Ebony as she stepped into the teleporter and went back to the starting city. She wanted to do an errand or two before going to sleep. She had no doubt that Ebony would be wanting her help again soon.
