[PP-F1] Late Start

Recommended Posts

The city was beginning to grow quite familiar as the maps of it were slowly being filled out having links and pointers that displayed what pieces of property and the various shops that were still selling beginners supplies. One girl hadn't really prepared herself well, and now that the large group of guilds and people had already gone forth into the higher floors Erin felt like she was being left in the dust. An adult being stuck with all the young children in the first city who had no idea what they were going to do after all of this. Her finger now began to twist the tip of her blonde hair as she sat at the entrance of the city now looking out over the landscape which she would eventually have to learn to traverse. After all life as a mere city wanderer was getting extremely boring.

"Oh gosh, I-I don't know if I can do this." She  collapsed upon the ground she wasn't certain how it was but she felt like she was hyperventilating now as she now had her gaze and hands fixed upon the ground to keep her from sliding out of the city. "I-I new I should have gone looking for guilds or posters for people who wanted to travel with groups. She whimpered now glancing up toward a few monsters that were strolling over the fields. Wild boars, wolves and worse ... insects were floating about. Instead of continuing on her journey out from the city she would keep sitting and whining uncomfortably about wanting to do something new. "W-what happens though if I get attacked?" Her hand reached down to her hip and clutched shakily upon the end of the whip.

Ebony ran out of Manta's potion shop on the first floor, holding her new potion. "Thanks Manta!" She shouted before sprinting off down the street and towards the entrance of the city. She heard rumors of a cave in the area that spawned monsters of a much higher level and difficulty than the normal floor one mobs. The black ebony rose hung around her neck on a silver chain, and the black armor on her left armor clinked as she ran.

She approached the entrance moments later, only to see a beautiful woman, with her hands and knees on the ground. She looked to be having some difficulty leaving the safe zone. Ebony walked up beside her and sat down a few feet away. "Are you doing alright?" She asked in a confident tone. She knew how it could be, being scared like that. Sometimes it just took another person with a confident attitude to help calm people down. Of course, she did have some right to be confident as her equipment showed.

"I-I think I want to puke, why can't I puke?" She  coughed a few times as she began to catch her breath now breaking the long hindered breathes of what must have simply been breathes of virtual air.  Suddenly though a cheery voice popped out at her and she blinked looking about and let out a quick screech as she had seen that their was a girl who had already sneaked upon her. Falling back now she landed on her side and closed both her eyes tightly now holding her hands out defensively before her. "No please I don't want trouble-" Suddenly everything snapped into place. Another gentle looking soul was now beside her, she shook her head back and forth, "No everything isn't alright I just decided to venture out today as I was getting bored just sitting about in the city waiting for others to clear a path ... but I want to help now but I can't do anything."

Casting her gaze down to the ground she realized that this was rather helpless, their was no way she could bolster enough self-confidence to continue forward on this journey. She needed to train, but to do that she had to be certain that she could live through a fight by herself. "U-um thanks for show concern, I'm Vyce or well Erin either or both come natural to me now."

Ebony remembered back when she had been about to exit the starter city for the first time. Although the situation was the same, it appeared that the reaction differed quite a bit between people. She smiled to the girl. It had only been a month or so since she'd started her own training, and she was already on par with some of the front liners, at least in terms of level. When you were a support  player, things got a bit complicated. "Dont worry about it. Going out isnt a big deal, as long as you have someone with you. It's perfectly safe as long as your careful around mobs." She unequipped the armor on her shoulder and handed it to Erin. "If you wear that you wont be able to be killed, at least not easily." She said. Realizing that the girl might think that she was giving her the armor she threw her hands up. "I need that btw. It's only for if your up to going out of the safe zone with me, if only for a few minutes." If given time she could always order the girl a set of armor for her to keep. That was, if Erin proved herself. Ebony wanted to be allies with everyone, but she only wanted to supply equipment to those who were going to keep growing stronger, not quit halfway.

She eyed to girl a bit curious, apparently nice people still existed on video games she thought that most of the other furious gamer girls were just that furious. Most of the other mmorpg's she had played they were addicts and got on people for being weaklings. To some extent that use to be Erin till now, this wasn't like any game she had played she wasn't ready to put everything out their risk life and limb. The whole purpose of video games was to hide your real self from the world and this one was tossing her out into the oven. Frying for days now till she finally couldn't stand the heat. Seeing the armor offered out to her she shook her head, "W-what no I couldn't possibly take your armor I wouldn't want to get it damaged." She stood up right now brushing herself off as she realized that might have been pointless. "I mean I can't make you risk taking damage you are ... a higher level then me though." She looked backwards over her shoulder to the field at a few insects and began to shiver uncomfortably. "If you are willing to part with it for a bit. Thanks, so umm you willing to help me out with my first fight then?"

Ebony continued to smile at the girl. She seemed to be extremely timid, hopefully her fighting style wasn't the same. "It's all good. Armor doesnt get damaged in this game, and even if it did I could get some more like that." She snapped her fingers. While that wasnt actually true, because good blacksmiths were hard to find, and they often took weeks to make your orders, she did have the col necessary to order another set if something happened to that one. The armor she had handed to Erin was extremely simple, consisting of a black metal armor from the tip of the left hand all the way up to the shoulder where it was secured with straps.  "Sure. I'm always up for a fight, and I enjoy helping other people out." She left the sentence where it stood, not adding on the part about that was only because it helped her in her goals. Because what sort of idiot would give there motives away like that?

"Again thanks, I will make sure to keep it clean, after all I hate to give it back in worse condition. Ok well," She looked back to the field checking the new shoulder pads with a less disconcerted expression across her face. As she looked out she finally took one deep breath and stepped out from the city bounds it was officially no longer safe where she was standing. It was rather scary at first, but their was nothing to be done about that. It was time that she got read. Shaking her shoulders as if dancing she was trying to figure out if the metal now covering her would clank about. She generally didn't like the idea of heavy armor but it hopefully would keep her safer than nothing at all. "Well why don't we go see if I can't take out that boar over there first and t-" grimacing at the site of the mosquito like creatures she shook her head. "Second thought I will just start with the boar."

She slowly approached it the metal on her body now making her feel even more awkward. Focus Erin can't go freaking out in the middle of a battle beside this is like the simplest enemy no way you will lose to this ... right. She bit her lip and drew her whip giving it a loud crack upon the ground in that instance the boar grunted in anger as it was enjoying a lazy day in the meadows. Hopping up an impression on the ground would remain till the grass respawned. Then the wild beast charged at her content with it's ramming speed. Tensing up she readied her whip but as she attempted the boar jumped through the air, the crack of her whip hitting where it had been. The boar smashed into her knocking her off her feet. "Gahhhh!" She yelled now shoving it away as she noticed a tick in her health bar.

Ebony nodded to the girl as she said she would hate to give it back in worse condition. She doubted that that was possible, given the way that the game worked, but better to be safe than sorry. She unsheathed her stiletto dagger, the black seeming to be fleck with blood. If things got too dangerous for Erin she would hop in and take he boar out. She wasnt a strong fighter, as most of her skill points had gone into healing, but what kind of player would she be if she couldn't take a boar out at her level? She walked forwards and placed a medicine patch on Erins arm. The patch glowed a pink color, restoring a bit of her health before bursting into pixels.

Erin flinched from being touched by the other girl, although her health bar now was going up she still began to shiver uncomfortably. "Thanks for the heal, I promise that I will take it on this time. Her second attack also missed horribly the only upside of it being that the monster charged off missing her completely as well. Collapsing on the ground she sighed, "Gah I"m such a failure!" She was beginning to get agitated with herself, what was the point of battling if she couldn't even land a hit upon her opponent. She supposed that her friend however wasn't to impressed with her abilities now as she had failed twice in a row to even make contact with the boar. The only upside is that the boar was now sniffing about trying to find her.

Ebony wasn't impressed by Erins missing twice in a row, but it took a lot to impress her, especially after hanging out with Zelrius, Tristan, and Calrex. She pulled out two peices of equipment and tossed them one the ground next to Erin. One of them had an accuracy booster enhancement on it to help her hit the boar, and the other one had the Keen enhancement, which made it easier to hit mobs after having successfully attacked before. Together they should make it much easier to take out the mob.

Being thrown the new armor to equip she quickly hopped her fingers through the menu till the items were now equipped. She had little time for herself to check what exactly they were doing as the boar prepared for a second pass at her. Thankfully it was slow in it's preparations and began to charge as it stumbled from having dazed itself on it's last failed attack. She quickly rolled out as it came barreling forward toward her giving a swift crack of the whip. The sound resonating through the field followed buy a pained squeal as the boars health fell by one point. She smiled and looked back at her companion thinking that this was beginning to feel a bit  more comfortable. Perhaps her experience in mmorpg's helped her adapt quicker. Although this was still just a board, she would have hated to have started with the insect. that was buzzing just out of aggro distance.

Ebony gave the girl a grin, glad that she had managed to hit the mob. Things were starting to look up, and she could tell that that last hit had been from Erins own ability, not because of any enhancements on the equipment Ebony had given her. She seemed to be adapting to the game quite quickly. Still, everything should be easier from this point on for her, thanks to the Keen enchantment on the wrist cuff. The boar seemed to have some tough skin though, its health only going down a quarter of the way. She considered enering the fight and finishing the boar off, but decided against it. This was Erin's first fight and probably had some sense of significance to her.

Perhaps Erin had been getting to ahead of herself, this was a game but it didn't mean that she could go and look to her friend every time she landed a blow. The boar must have picked up some speed as it was already on top of her when she looked back toward it again it rammed into her side a tusk causing a good gash about her side and causing her to spin about on her feet barely catching herself. Shaking it of she caught a glimpse of the boar from the side of her vision weakly hitting the boar this time against the leg. The snapping made another squeal and the boar turn angrily to stare down the girl. Despite being hit she was feeling far more comfortable. Perhaps it was the equipment that allowed her to hit either way it was a close call.

Ebony had noticed how the girl had cringed before when she had healed her, so she didn't want to do it again. Still, it was better to be safe. She walked up to Erin and gingerly placed a medicine patch on her neck, the patch itself glowing pink momentarily as Erin's health restored to full. The patch then burst into crystals. Ebony backed up to give the girl her space in the fight, not wanting to interfere besides healing.

It's ok now Erin everything is going just according to plan. That familiar touch against her neck she blushed a bit startled again, but this time she didn't let it distract her as the boar kicked it's hoof against the ground. A piece of dirt being shot up and then disappearing into the atmosphere. The boar growled angrily blindly charging off into battle now. Luckily it's rage had now begun to blind it giving her plenty of time to react. She practically waited for the last moment to then jump over it allowing it to go between her legs. Landing on her feet and one hand to stabilize herself and giving another lash to the rear of the boar that now squealed in pain as it was beginning to show signs that it was indeed ready to collapses from the damage, but not quite yet.

Ebony clapped as Erin landed yet another hit. She remembered how tedious fighting had been for her before shed leveled up a few times. It was even more tedious now though as her skill points had been going into her healing and not her sword skills. She would remedy that soon enough once she got enough skill points. Erin had easily dodged the boar, leading Ebony to come to the conclusion that what she had been thinking about before was true. Erin was adapting to the way the game worked at an extremely fast pace.

As the boar squealed in pain it slowly looked about wishing now that it had joined with a small pack knowing that this was quite problematic. It let out another loud utterance before stepping forward toward Erin before it came down a glimmer appeared in her eye as she flourished the whip about in a dancers like grace before letting out a loud echoing snap that for once was followed by no squeal as she had delivered a beautifully delivered final blow with her cowhide whip. The Boar collapsed as it took a critical wound letting it's pixels floating up into the sky now as she was congratulated by the game engine for defeating her first foe in combat. She smiled and then let herself rest by collapsing against the ground and smiling, "That felt good." She sighed before opening her eyes back to look toward Ebony. "Thanks for the healing, sorry if I bored you though with the fight I realize that took me longer than I would have hoped.

Ebony grinned. "No worries. When I get fighting it goes on for even longer." She explained. That was just because of her build choice though. Once she grand-mastered first aid she would move on to her sword skills. "You did a great job, hopefully you'll level up soon so that your fights don't take so long. You can keep the ring and the pendant if youd like, but if we're done out here im going to need the armor back." She explained. "Unless of course youd like to do some more hunting."

Erin nodded unequipping the armor and handing it back to the girl, "Wait really? I mean I could ask you to just give up these just like that I wouldn't feel right just taking someone else's stuff even if it was just a gift." She wasn't really in a position though to not ask for as much charity as she could get after all if she hadn't been healed she most likely would have died. "Y-you are certain that you are able to part with both of these?" They seemed to glisten upon her rather beautifully, and she had to admit that she was growing quite attached to it. Pulling up her menu she would now be checking the stats and how they were able to boost her accuracy. "The mind and eye of the Templar? Neat." She smiled, "I'll be certain to repay you whenever you want for this help." She bowed respectively to Ebony. She gave back the armor without further adue. "Oh and here is a friend request while I'm at it."

Ebony unsheathed her dagger and tossed it up into the air, catching it again. "I have my own accuracy enhancer right here. I'm an artisan, so I have plenty of items like those, so it's not like im even giving anything." A friend request screen popped up in front of her, and she tapped the accept button. That was one more ally for her. Eventually this would all come back around for her when one of these players she helped out would become a powerful front liner and she would be glad that she had done all of this. She resheathed her dagger and turned back to the entrance of the city. "I know of a good cafe if your interested."
